This armour is based on the funeral effigy of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick (d.1439) and represents Italian armour of the Milanese export style. The steel used in this armour is heat treated "spring" steel and was built for professional jousting.
These pauldrons, supplied to the Roayl Armouries, Leeds, are based on
those depicted in the painting of "The Battle of San Romano" by Paolo Uccello (c.1435)
Milanese gauntlets replicated from those of the
Avant armour (1440) in the Glasgow museum.
